A little history...
Cattle for more than 100 years
The McEnroes have been farming cattle for well over 100 years. Bartle McEnroe (Batty) bought the first Aberdeen Angus heifer, Diana of Lakeview, from his uncle Bernard in 1953. This established the Duchess of Liss cow family and the Liss Aberdeen Angus Herd, thus beginning Batty’s lifelong love of Aberdeen Angus cattle. Batty kept his cattle true to a type, an honest and hard-working cow of moderate frame size. Producing correct functional cattle that exhibited high levels of breed character and confirmation, building a renowned herd over time. Batty instilled this breeding philosophy in his sons, who have in return passed the breeding tradition on to their children.
Our Cattle
and breeding philosophy
Leo started Lisduff Angus in 1993 with Duchess 10th of Liss as his foundation female. Leo has since expanded the Lisduff herd with his sons to 170 Pedigree breeding females including the addition of a Red Angus programme. At Lisduff we are producing moderate framed, thick chunky angus cattle while retaining the classic breed character of the beautiful angus head and ears. Functional hardworking cattle have been vital to success in a low input grass-based system. Like Batty we do not believe in extremes. The emphasis has always been on and will continue to be on, breed character, confirmation and functionality. These fundamental breeding requirements underpin our breeding strategy. The ultimate aim is to meet the economic requirements of our customers in an ever-changing market.
